Using SpoilersPlease be respectful and use spoilers when discussing the latest films and news:Use the following format: !Spoilers go here! Please ignore this post if you don't want to read criticism on this figure.First off, this figure has a pixel paint job over the simple bold painting based on the sprites. I understand that some people may like that look, but it's the inconsistency that bothers me. It would bother me just as much if all the others were pixel painted but this one had the simple paint job based on the sprite. It's just another sign, to me, that NECA isn't putting as much time, effort, energy, love, or importance in this line compared to their other lines.

Love the pixel paint or not, you have to admit it is a little odd that this is the only figure like that. The main row of spines are great, their shape matches with the sprite really well. But since they went with the pixel paint job, it's odd that they didn't try to match it up even more. I admit it's a bit of a stretch to hope that NECA would do that, since they thought that Godzilla looked good with blue nails even when he's in meltdown.

And since they modded the main row so drastically, they could have modded the secondary rows to be smaller. They could have just take the tripple bump spines that are on the non-bendy section of the tail and have them instead of the 85's bigger secondary spines, replicating the secondary row from the '64 suit the sprite is based off of.Red eyes. There is zero, zilch, nada, bupkis of red in the sprite. You think it'd be easier for them just to keep it the base blue color which covers the majority of the figure. But this is the same company that gave Godzilla 1994/95 blue nails for whatever reason. And they used the 1985 figure. While it'd be nice if they made a '64 figure and then used that to make the Classic Video Game Appearance figure, they probably wanted to strike while the iron is hot.

We have 3 long years until Godzilla pops back into mainstream America pop culture. Which one could argue that it shows they don't have faith that the line will have as much longevity as their other lines. But many do love this figure, some specifically for the odd differences, and that's fine. Enjoy what you enjoy.

I'm not going to stop you, if anything I want people to encourage it. If the Godzilla line starts doing the same business as their Alien and Predator lines (and I'll admit I'm assuming it's not and would like to find a place that has the sales numbers or to be proven wrong) then they may just put more effort into the figures they release for this line (or buy the rights to other monsters, but probably not).Personally I am, more than likely, not getting this figure for my own collection. I may be a bit of a bastard and buy one and sell it mint after it goes OOP. But I may have something better to spend my $20-30 on, so we'll see. So I think that's a pretty clear indication as to what the sprite was designed after. And if you took the fins off the 94 figure and replaced it with the NES fins it'd look almost the same too.

The fact is that the fins are based on Showa fins (mostly 62-66, since by 67 the fins start getting curls to the tips). So a Showa design would be more apropos. Here's the (I'm just using this as the best side angle of the suit I could quickly find). The neck is longer that the 85 figure, matching closer to the sprite. The shoulders are bigger and higher up, matching closer to the sprite.

It have 5 main body fins and short bumps rather than maple leaf fins for the secondary rows, matching closer to the sprite. It's shins are thicker matching closer to the sprite.Like I said, they're already re-using the 94 mold for Burning G, the 54 mold hasn't finished production as well as any other figure they haven't revealed that might fit better. The 85 mold is the only one they weren't doing anything with and instead of waiting for a 62-66 Showa figure mold to fit the design better, they just hack up the fins on the '85 because they already had to redesign the head so why not once more unto the breach, eh?If they reveal a 64 design as one of the upcoming 3, I may just scream. The packaging and adverting folks are totally different than the crew who made the sprites in the game.84 is the perfect choice for the spriteBut it's not, you even says so.problems of course being the finsHow can it be perfect yet have problems?Where as a NES recoloring of a 64 figure wouldn't need any rejiggering to the physical aspects of figure at all. Sure the fins wouldn't be super huge, but the shape and number of them match close enough to the sprite that they wouldn't need to be physically altered. But here's another thing about the fins; like the pixel paint job, none of NECAs other Classic Video Game Appearance figures have had such drastic physical alterations.

A 64 figure wouldn't NEED huge fins as the fins would be the shape that the sprite makers based their sprite on.Again it's showing that they are just chopping up a mold and shoving out the Godzilla CVGA figure as quick as possible. You didn't see them saw off the back tubes of any of their Alien figures and call it the Alien 3 CVGA.

They waited until they made a Dog Alien then repainted it. They had faith that the line would keep going long enough for them to get to that figure and give it a good paint job. Here, it seems, they don't think the line will be around long enough to get to a '64 design and give it a repaint. I said I was criticizing the figure, in big, bold letters didn't I? I was letting people who don't want to hear negative things about something they like know that this post wouldn't be for them.

I'm not telling anyone they're wrong for liking it or wanting it, but that NECA doesn't care for this line as they do their others and this cash grab is another sign of that. I'm disheartened by that and am just giving my opinion, that obviously isn't the majority. And I don't want this sub to be an echo chamber either. I don't think my post was mean spirited or anything but just showing issues I have with this figure, and the way NECA is handling the license. I mean look at Jorzilla's post here.

He calls it the ugliest figure he's seen and he's downvoted into negate numbers for simply stating his opinion. Some people like this design, others don't.
