Drop into the world of Malheim Rangers of Oblivion and rid it of the monstrous corruptions roaming the land. Craft your own arms and armor and craft a variety of weapons from greatswords, lances, to armored gauntlets. Defeat gigantic behemoths with your friends or AI companions. Believe us when we say that Rangers of Oblivion is what most mobile MMOs should aspire to be. Closely resembling the popular Monster Hunter series, the game puts you in the shoes of a ranger living in the world of Malheim, a once peaceful realm now inhabited by fierce monstrosities that roam the land.

Controls in Rangers of Oblivion are really intuitive. Use your left thumb to control your character's movements and your right thumb to use all your special skills and attacks. Also, if you click on the active mission you can move automatically towards a specific area. Jan 16, 2020  Engage in real-time combat with a completely unlocked camera and take in the world of Rangers of Oblivion. Master 6 unique weapon types: Greatsword, Lance, Longbow, Twin Blades, Staff, and Armored Gauntlets.

Here, you’ll become a ranger who is basically a hunter whose task is to take down behemoths to protect the land. Whether you’re a fan of monster slaying games or not, should you give this a try? Let’s find out what it has to offer: First off, let’s clear things up. No, Rangers of Oblivion is not your typical mobile MMORPG that does things automatically for you all the time. The only automatic element here is the pathing mechanic that lets you move towards the NPCs who are quest-givers. Everything else, especially in combat, is performed manually. It’s arguably one of the first MMOs I’ve played on mobile wherein you actually play the game and not let the auto-quest and auto-battle mechanics do it for you.

It’s a breath of fresh air, and if you’re looking for a perfect alternative to titles like Monster Hunter and God Eater, this game should be on top of your list. Rangers of Oblivion’s gameplay loop is comparable to the old Monster Hunter games, especially MH: Freedom Unite on the PSP. You’ll talk to an NPC that gives you quests and then move to certain map where you can fulfill these mission.

These mainly compose of taking down behemoths that roam the land and harvesting their corpses for weapon and armor materials. There are also expedition and exploration modes if you’re not in the mood to do battle.

Back at your base, you can grow plants to boost your combat capabilities and earn more items. The maps are divided into several areas. Going to a new one triggers an annoying but quick loading screen. You can then use these materials to craft or upgrade new gear.

However, note that the weapons and armor you have aren’t just linear: every piece of equipment has its own strengths, weaknesses, and attributes, not just defense. Some have poison and elemental resistance, giving you various options depending on the type of monster you’re facing in battle. Combat is Rangers of Oblivion’s strongest aspect.

It’s comparable to Monster Hunter, though it has a few ingenious tweaks of its own. You’ll control your character by moving him or her around with a digital joystick on the left side of the screen while the attack and skill buttons are on the right. There’s also a handy dodge mechanic you need to use correctly to avoid getting hit. Again, nothing is automated.

You’ll need to study the monsters’ attack patterns and capabilities. In a way, you’ll also grow and get stronger alongside your character as you progress further into the game. There are no job classes here. Instead, play style is decided on the type of weapon you bring to battle.

You’ll have the option to bring a greatsword, longbow, lance, twinblades, staff, and armored gauntlets to battle. Note that each weapon has its own strengths, skills, and nuances, so be sure to try them out and find the one you’re comfortable with. In addition, you can easily trigger skills by tapping on the appropriate button to deal devastating damage.

To aid you in your hunting endeavours, you have an option to play with your friends or go solo and bring along a few AI allies. Overall, Rangers of Oblivion is a fun game and is definitely something you should play if you’re looking for something hardcore or anything comparable to Monster Hunter. It’s one of the better MMOs today and one of the newest ones at that. So yes, start your journey in Malheim with your friends and start slaying behemoths!
